830 Hungerford Place

I was browsing homes in Charlotte when I came across this one. It's 11,000+ square feet and is located at 830 Hungerford Place, on 3 acres. The front is symmetrically designed and even more elegant once you take a step inside...

I love all the natural light coming in the front doors, it reflects of the painted hardwoods which give the space some character.

The stairway has a modern sisal type of carpet, perfect for a busy family to hurry up and down the stairs.

The formal living room has beautiful 12' ceilings, as does the rest of the home. It looks slightly unused, but would be a lovely spot to host a Christmas tea party.

The dining room has a beautifully painted wall, and ample space to sit everyone around a large round table. I would have added seating by the windows for after dinner guests and maybe a small bar.

Besides the obvious, there's a bear in the room... I'd be walking through this room quickly, he looks like he climbed through the window.

And this is where I'd settle. The French style furnishings are classy, yet look really comfortable.

A dreamy white kitchen, which overlooks the breakfast room. So much light this would be a wonderful start to every day.

Upstairs is this comfy bedroom, which has soothing colored walls and nicely adorned trim. There are 6 bedrooms altogether, and 10 bathrooms (although none were pictured).

It's on the market for 3.45 million. You can visit the link here.

Full Length Movie Sunday

There are some weekends when we all need some downtime. Time to sit back, relax and watch movies. I have been finding lot's of old, but good movies on You Tube. Totally appropriate for Hallmark or Lifetime, these movies are some I've seen before, but they all carry a message.

First
Ordinary Miracles (2005)
is about a young girl who gets sent from foster home, to foster home, but when there's no place for her to go a judge decides to take her in. This movie teaches you about second chances.

Second
A Child's Cry For Help (1994)
a movie that brings out the investigator in you, can a mom who seem so affectionate, and loving be the reason for her sons illnesses? This movie teaches that you have to rely on instinct.

Third
Everybody's Baby The Rescue Of Jessica McClure (1989)
The video cannot be posted, but is a worthwhile watch. A baby has an accident and draws a nation together in her rescue. This movie teaches how we should all help each other, in times of need.

Fourth
Child Star: The Shirley Temple Story (2001)
my grandmother loved Shirley Temple, so I decided to learn more. This movie is about how Shirley was the most famous child star, most possibly in history, but after growing up, her fame began to fade.

Hope you had a happy weekend!

Vintage Coastal Style and Milk Bunt Cake

My style is Vintage Coastal.

I adore a pastel palette with soothing mints, soft whites and hints of blush.

Vintage entry with a mint wallpaper. The traditional wood floors, and mill work add character and the seating adds a touch of French vintage elegance.

Vintage bathroom with a roll top bathtub and clean white cabinetry. I adore the floral accents, and soft touches which make this bathroom look cozy, and relaxing.

Coastal kitchen with white cabinetry and extensive mill work. The lanterns add some character and a focal point to the room. So much natural light.
Seaside Style

Coastal living room with beautiful sea views. Could you imagine an afternoon gazing out the window? The stripe rug grounds the furniture arrangement, and like colors are repeated in the cushions and throws.
Seaside

Vintage kitchen that makes you want to bring out a recipe book and bake. The open shelving in imperfectly perfect and the beamed ceiling adds the cohesive style.
Shabby chic kitchen

How about baking a milk bunt cake. Looks delicious to me.

Here's the recipe

In other news, the Patterson Mansion once inhabited by President Calvin Coolidge while the White House was going through renovations is for sale.

The Patterson Mansion: The grand residence hosted lavish parties that brought together the most influential people of the era

Excerpt from the Daily Mail:

"An historic Italianate mansion located on Washington DC's exclusive Dupont Circle has come up for sale for the first time in more than half a century.

The 36,470 square foot Patterson Mansion is one of the most pedigreed in the country. Designed by Stanford White of the renowned architectural firm for the Chicago Tribune editor Robert Patterson and his wife Elinor 'Nellie' Patterson, daughter of newspaper publisher Joseph Medill, the property was built in 1901 and over the years hosted such luminaries as President Coolidge and aviator Charles Lindbergh.

From its debut, the Patterson Mansion became the social heart of Washington, where coveted invitations brought together prominent statesmen, politicians, journalists and industrialists.

The Patterson's loved to entertain and worked with White to create large social spaces complete with antique limestone fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, herringbone parquetry floors and historic tiger oak floors.

The house also boasts the first enclosed garage to have been built in Washington DC, according to the listing agent, Jonathan Taylor of TTR Sotheby's International Realty.

Owned for the past 52 years by the private Washington Club, a private social club, the four-storey white marble and glazed terracotta home sits on a third of an acre. It has 16 bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, seven half-bathrooms, a grand ballroom with 14-foot ceilings, library, auditorium, an elevator and parking for 10 cars.
Nellie Patterson left the house to her daughter, Eleanor 'Cissy' Patterson, who continued to use the home for entertaining. In 1927, when the White House was undergoing renovations, President Calvin Coolidge and his wife Grace stayed there for the summer.

Cissy Patterson, a leading light in Washington society and one of the first women to head a major newspaper, also welcomed renowned aviator Charles Lindbergh into her home after he completed the first-ever non-stop flight from New York to Paris that same summer.
Following Cissy Patterson's death from heart attack in 1948, the house became the property of the American Red Cross, to whom she had bequeathed it.

The Red Cross sold the property to the Washington Club in 1951. The Washington Club, the oldest private women's club in the district, is disbanding and therefore selling the residence.

According to Sotheby's International Realty, the mansion is the only surviving example of the grand mansions that once crowded Dupont Circle.
The mansion was designated a Washington D.C. historic site in 1964 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972."

Here are some interior views:

No ordinary stairs: The home's grand staircase is made from marble, complete with a marble fountain on the first landing

Elegant: The neoclassic Italianate style of the Patterson Mansion was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries

No expense spared: Nellie and Robert Patterson specified that they wanted grand interiors for hosting guests on a large scale

Ballroom: Guests dressed to the nines would have filled this room at the many exclusive parties thrown by the Pattersons

Drawing room: The Patterson Mansions many social spaces were designed to have a 'light and rather joyous character,' said the house's architect

Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky's $10 Millon apartment.

The Whitman: The apartment is located in The Whitman building next to Madison Square Park, one of the most desirable corners of Manhattan's Flatiron District

Marc and Chelsea have purchased a four-bedroom, 5,000-square-foot apartment. It  is located in The Whitman building next to Madison Square Park (above) and it claims to be one of New York's longest apartment's - stretching an entire block from 26th Street to 27th Street off Madison Avenue.

Luxury fortress: Chelsea Clinton's new $10million pad is New York's longest apartment - stretching an entire block from 26th Street to 27th Street off Madison Avenue

Horizontal building: Described as 'a luxury fortress' with one full-time doorman to the 90-year-old building's four units, it takes almost 30 seconds to walk the 250-foot hallway

The nearly 90-year-old building has just three $10million homes and one $22.5million duplex penthouse - so far two buyers are in contract, including Ms Clinton.

Apparently other big names are looking at the remaining units, which are billed as among the most secure in Manhattan

The home is listed for $10 million, and has four bedrooms, six bathrooms and one half bathroom. You can view more details on the listing website HERE.
