Funny People, am I one of them?

Everyday I have a mental note of what pages I'm going to check out online, don't you? Firstly is my Hotmail account, where I recently spent a day putting my several hundred messages into neat folders (highly recommended) and it's also where I keep a running to-do list and calender.

 

Then it's Facebook of course, to see if any one's posted something new, or to read messages from my friends near and far.

 

Then each and every day I read The Daily Mail. It is a British newspaper. I was once a newspaper delivery gal, back in my early teens in England and The Daily Mail headlines always captured my attention, and I also like that it's not like some American news stations can be, too conservative, or too liberal.

 

After that, it's the dreaded task of checking my banking online. It can either put me in a good mood or bad mood, especially when a service charge pops up out of know where. This is a funny article on 'How Banks make their Money'.

 

Then, I update my blogs, and peruse others. I tend to like design blogs, as well as the funny ones. If you ever need a laugh you can follow Because I Said So, or Bye Bye, Pie!

Welcome home this Wednesday!

Welcome Home!

If only, this home is almost 4500SQ Feet of luxury. It has a beautiful facade with lots of architectural interest. Personally though, I would simplify the entry columns as there too fussy for my style. Also I'd add a yellow front door and paint the windows and shutters a dusky blue color. A French country farmhouse fantasy.

As you go down to the basement you have a full guest suite which could be rented out, or even for long stay visitors. There are also many unfinished rooms, a craft room, mans cove, play room, pets playground or even a wine room. What say you?

What appealed to me most about the main floor is the beautiful two-story great room. I understand it's not to every one's taste however I've always favoured one large room over the separate formal living and family rooms as usually the formal living room collects dust and is merely there for 'show' whereas a great room can bring the family together for a game of cards, a cup of tea and a chat or even to catch up on the latest shows on TLC. If your into the Learning Channel that is!

The bedrooms upstairs should be called the Children's floor, as it hosts bedroom suites. Some would argue that's too much bathroom cleaning, however with a large family it would be ideal. For teenagers it could also be locked if there not keeping it clean. For others, you could seek extra cleaning help to keep the tasks more manageable.

Beautiful gift wrap inspiration from Timeless Paper

Something you didn't know about me

When I was in high school (1997-2002) in England we were required to do a two week internship, to get a feel for what future path we'd like to walk down. I remember we were interviewed by our careers coach and asked what interested us.

Obviously I said; "I really enjoy houses".

I did, I really did! My fascination started when I was around six, or seven. My parents had a house referred to as the 'broken house' which sat on over 22 acres in South Africa. I built my own play house out of concrete blocks and cement bags.

Later on, when I moved to England I'd draw floor plans on A4 paper for hours, some of which I still have.When I got older we'd visit stately homes, palaces, castles and halls all of which made me intrigued in history and one place in particular Windsor Castle, well the Queen Mary's doll house was something I believe every little girl wishes she could play with.

Anyways, for my internship they sent me to a dollhouse shop, in Royal Leamington Spa for a week, and to a Real Estate agents also in Leamington for a week (not the best week for selling as it was a month after 9/11).

So, when I came across Liberty Biberty I was enthralled, a mother decorated a shabby cottage in true doll house fashion. If it were real, it would be my dream home!

Romantic Wrapping

Christmas wrapping is something you either like, or dislike. For me, it is something I've always enjoyed doing. When I was younger, my mother would ask for help wrapping gifts to put under the tree. She was patient and always used the line "less is more". I however, enjoyed bringing out the ribbons, bows and name tags and would spend hours embellishing gifts.

Over time, I bought my own gifts to give, and would at times over embellish them, to the dismay that  others were disappointed with what was inside. Oftentimes, a reduced price book, or a last minute find.

Embarrassed, I decided I would prefer to discover something beautiful to share. So over the years whenever I go to antique shops, idyllic stores, boutiques or on my annual European trips I collect small things that I like and wish to give, and in return I get the pleasure of gift wrapping, embellishing and giving.
