Be My Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day to you.

Last night we had a lovely dinner, which I posted about here.

Today, I awoke to a lovely surprise. An orchid and a gift. The gift was a Whitman's sampler.

My fiance made us breakfast. Pancakes and bacon!

Oscar watched me eat. Haha!

For lunch I made a pot roast. I served it alongside roasted carrots, potatoes, sweet tomatoes and onions. Also, the gravy was probably the tastiest I've ever made.

Oscar was full and sleepy...he had a lovely nap.

Sophie, was so happy. Bacon and pot roast??!!

We had a lovely Valentine's Day. I'm very loved.

Kim Kardashian's House

This is supposedly Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's new home in Bel Air, California.

The Italian styled villa is 9000 square feet and has never been occupied. However, it's said Kim and Kanye are undertaking a large scale renovation.

Neighbors include Jenifer Aniston, Chris Paul, and Joe Francis.

The kitchen features rain forest marble counters, and a sense of replicated European style with it's beams and herringbone bricked ceiling.

The equally large family room, has sweeping views of the loggia and pool. Which don't seem as private when looking at these exterior photos.

The views are amazing though, wouldn't you agree?

You can also see them from the upstairs balcony and bedroom.

Oh, and it was only $10.75 million with $933 monthly HOA dues.

The photos were from homebunch and there are similar posts to check out at Hooked on Houses.

Wedding Dreams

Every little girl dreams of the wedding she will have someday.

Who will be her future husband,

what to wear,

who will rejoice in the union?

It's a time of so many emotions, love, happiness and joy. A happy ever after.

That is until you start planning your wedding, and everybody all of a sudden has an opinion.

All a bride and groom want to hear are happy words of love and encouragement.

Not conditional love, but unconditional love.

This beautiful couple had a lovely wedding in Nashville, Tennessee.

with such a beautiful arrangement of decorations and tablescapes.

Birdcages, roses, and a beautifully appointed cake.

What a beautiful wedding, I just had to share from the Wedding Chicks.

Bye Bye 2012

This year has been one of ups and downs but so have the last four. This next year however, is exciting as we have lot's of transitions to a 'new normal' ahead of us.

1-What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?

Went to Farm Chicks.

Taught Junior Design Classes.

We went to Harvard and we tried to sneak in the library.

 Cory in Harvard Yard

Kiki in Harvard Yard

Made my first apple pie.

This year I hosted Christmas for the first time.

2-Did anyone close to you give birth?

Devon Gray was born in January and Adilee Joy was born in April this year.

Baby Adilee just after Thanksgiving

3-Did anyone close to you die?

I've had three grandparents die within 18 months and my dad diagnosed with cancer 8 weeks after my grandmother passed and that is what made the last four years so difficult. This year, thankfully nobody passed away and my dad is now in remission.

4-What dates from 2012 will remain etched in your memory and why?

May 29th
My 26th birthday and engagement

October 7th
Cory's 31st birthday in Cambridge

5-Did you suffer any illness or injury?

I've been very healthy.

6-What was the best thing you bought?

My flower strainer from World Market.

7-Where did most of your money go?

On house projects, we saved so we could finish our kitchen and build a deck.

8-What song will always remind you of 2012?

Carly Rae Jepson's Call Me Maybe.

9-What do you wish you'd done more of/less of?

This year I wish I had worried less and blogged more.

10-What was your favorite TV program?

I love The Middle, so much so we bought the whole of season one and did a marathon over 2 nights.

11-What is your best read this year?

I have enjoyed reading my subscriptions, and all the blogs I follow.

12-What was your favorite movie this year?

The Perfect Family movie with Kathleen Turner.

13-What did you do on your birthday? How old were you?

We stayed at The Davenport, got engaged and I turned 26.

14-Did you travel anywhere this year?

Yes.

We went to Las Vegas, Nevada with my mom.

Stayed at The Davenport, and The Davenport Towers in Spokane, Washington for my birthday.

Camped at Round Lake, Idaho

Went on a trip to Boston, Cambridge and Hyannis Massachusetts for Cory's birthday.

Cheesy tourists at the JFK Museum

Lastly, we stayed at The Nines in Portland, Oregon.

Gigi, Julie (my mom) and Kiki at The Nines

15-What national event stirred you the most?

The Newton tragedy. Oh my word.

16-Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.

I have had the opportunity to be around the cancer center and volunteer teach children about cancer. However I've learned so much more from them and their parents about how precious and valuable our one life is.

Don't live in the past, as it makes you depressed and bitter, nor too far in the future (which I'm guilty of) because it makes you anxious...

rather live in the present, be present and don't fret about the past nor the future.

Here's to 2013.

Happy New Dreams

What a wonderful way to think about the new year.

Happy New Dreams.

Pinned Image

My DREAM is for us to move safely.

For sunny NEW DAYS at the beach.

To have a simple wedding day, with many years to DESIRE one another.

NEW WAYS to celebrate the holidays.

A YEAR of happiness, healthiness and to leave the past two years of death, cancer and family disruptions aside.

And last but definitely not least, a NEW ME that is happier, and comfortable with letting the world know my beliefs without hiding under a rock, with fear.

To all my readers,

I wish you all a very happy NEW YEAR.

Roasted rib-eye garnished with fruits

How delicious does this rib-eye look?

I found the recipe on Pinterest and discovered a lovely new blog with many scrumptious recipes to try.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the recipe from La Casa Sin Tiempo:

Roasted rib-eye garnished with fruits

Ingredients
A piece of rib-eye according to the size you wish
½ glass of white wine
Olive oil, garlic, salt and grounded pepper
A bunch of herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage)
Green apples (or red, if you prefer) and pears.

First of all, put olive oil all over the meat and flavour it with crushed garlic, salt and pepper rubbing them well. Pre-heat the oven in 240°C. This initial high temperature will be for sealing and thus, avoiding the juice to leak out of the meat. After flavoured, tie the meat with a string all over the piece so its shape will be kept. Cut the apples and pears in halves by their longitude (do not peel them) keeping the stalk. Put the bunch of herbs under the rib-eye in a roaster, place the apples and pears among it and baste everything with white wine. The roaster goes into the pre-heated oven in high temperature (240°C). Then, at this time, lower the oven for 200°C and roast the meat for about 40 minutes. Every now and again sprinkle the meat and fruits with the wine from the bottom of the roaster. If you prefer it well done, it should remain in the oven until it gets gilded.

Delicious, right?
