Martha Stewart's Cantitoe Corners Home

Situated on 153 acres Martha Stewart has a home in Bedford, in Westchester County, New York. It was first settled in 1784, and was bought by Martha in 2000.

Martha resides in the 1925 farmhouse (the Winter House), shown above – a three-story abode fronted by a long porch and dormer windows on the third level. Adjacent to the farmhouse is the property's original abode: a 1770 Colonial house, known as the Summer House. There is also a nearby tenant’s cottage, where her daughter, Alexis, lives when she is visiting. The property also contains a guest house, known as the Maple Avenue House, and a contemporary house deeper on the property.

On beautifully gardened and level property with stately trees, this handsome 1925 brick and clapboard center hall Georgian with a widow's walk and a wood shingle roof has memorable architecture, great character, high ceilings and classical detailing. The brick end gable has a charming second-floor bay window. The driveway leads to a courtyard, and the front facade has columns and a Palladian window over the entrance doorway with an ornate fanlight. The center hall has a graceful curving stairway, a powder room and wide-board floors which continue into the gracious living room with a fireplace, a high ceiling, painted panelling, bookcases and three exposures with tall windows including views of the water. The formal dining room with a lovely fireplace has elegant plaster moldings, a high ceiling and south-facing windows with views as does the richly panelled library with bookcases and french doors to a flagstone terrace. The family room with a fireplace and built-ins adjoins the renovated kitchen with a bay window in the eating area, a door to the mudroom with a powder room, a door to the garage for four cars, and a classic butler's pantry leading into a charming panelled office with delightful plaster bas reliefs in the upper walls. Upstairs, the Palladian window gives a wonderful feel to the main hall, and the master bedroom suite has a fireplace in the bedroom with a bay window to the east, a south view to the water, a study with a wall of south-facing windows, a whirlpool bathroom with a separate shower, a dressing room and walk-in closets. There are five additional bedrooms, four with renovated en suite bathrooms, a back stairs and a wonderful third-floor studio with a large skylight and both north and south exposures. The lower level has a playroom with a fireplace and various storerooms. A wonderful extra asset is the separate garage apartment with a large living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. This marvelous home of the 1920s with all renovated bathrooms and central air conditioning is in a top location only a block from the club with walking and bicycling from the front door on the beautiful, traffic-free lanes of the Belle Haven association with its private security and park like landscaping.
